The Red Kite is a medium-large bird of prey that is almost entirely restricted to Europe, but in Belgium it’s a rare species.

With its reddish-brown plumage, it is considered in Great-Britain as ‘the most beautiful bird of prey of the land’.

The Red Kite is a typical inhabitant of deciduous forests and wet valleys with open habitats for foraging.

Dutch name : Rode Wouw
German name : Rotmilan
Latin name : Milvus milvus

Shot was made with a 850mm lens (500mm + 1,7x extender) out of this hunting cabin at -17°

ich habe ihn auch schon einige Male fotografiert, aber so eine Aunfahme habe ich noch nie hinbekommen, nicht nur schön die Haltung auch die Schärfe absolut perfekt Mark

Very harmonious lighting on the whole bird and a very convincing rendition of all details from the majestic looking head to the powerful talons.

I figure that only a blend of meticulous preparation, patient observation and knowledge of the area could lead to that well-deserved reward.
