The Fungi world (87) : Shaggy Parasol

The Shaggy Parasol is popularly praised as a good edible mushroom. However it contains toxins which can cause gastric upsets when eaten raw or undercooked, and some individuals show a strong allergic response even after cooking. So, you better watch out !

Dutch name : Knolparasolzwam
German name : Safranschirmling
Latin name : Chlorophyllum rhacodes (formerly known as Macrolepiota rhacode)

A fascinating mushroom with this cap seemingly "dripping" - surprising that it is edible and I wonder if one scrapes off the top.
An excellent capture amongst the leaves and acorns - again so sharp and well lit!!
    greetings, Adele

@ Gruber Fred : Indeed yes, there is quite some resemblance between the Parasol Mushroom and the Shaggy Parasol.
You are right about the stem of the Parasol Mushroom which has usually some small brownish scales, but it’s not the first time I see a specimen with a smooth stem.
Moreover, the cap diameter of a Shaggy Parasol never grows bigger then 15cm. while a Parasol Mushroom can easily reach up to 30cm. or more.
The specimen in the shot was about 25cm.
But maybe you are right. I shall try to find out and ask my professor mycology next week (university of Antwerp).
