Southwest Airlines ist nicht nur die zweitgrößte Fluggesellschaft, bzw. größte Inlandsfluggesellschaft der Welt, sonder gilt auch als "Mutter der Billigfluggesellschaften". Das Konzept wurde von einigen Fluggesellschaften kopiert, u.a. Ryanair u. Easyjet. Southwest betreibt aktuell eine Flotte von 566 Flugzeugen, ausschließlich Boeing 737.

Diese Boeing 737-700 mit der Reg. N221WN, im Endanflug auf LAX hatte ihren Erstflug am 11.08.2005 und wurde am 24.08.2005 neu an Southwest ausgeliefert.
