Die Azoren, zu deutsch: Habichtsinseln, sind eine Gruppe von neun größeren und mehreren kleineren portugiesischen Atlantikinseln (Hauptinsel São Miguel), die 1.369 km westlich vom europäischen Festland Cabo da Roca und 4.359 km ostwärts von Nordamerika (US-Bundesstaat Virginia) liegen. Die kürzeste Entfernung zur nordamerikanischen Insel, Neufundland in Kanada, beträgt 2.418 km.
