Very impressive! National Geograpic like!!!
Great Pic mate like it.. is that the old FN rifle?
The weapon is an old german G3, the army rifle for over 30 years...
Interesting portrait. I am a little bit worried.
nice weather soldier. not realistic, to much pose, to harmless, not Geographic like. But except the unrealistic sky the colors looks very warm and likeable.
If you looks the shadow right at the bottom, it looks like a montage.
Sorry Alfons, but 1) the pose is quite intentional, because this is a didactic image, which it has to contain a lot of information about the subject, his life and his environment, avoiding the confusion of the many elements. 2) This image cannot be more realistic (I suppose you never been in Niger). 3) The sky is quite real. 4) Maybe you don't know that Nat Geo photographers are usual to create even sets to shot their images which look as "realistic" only because you watch them on a famous magazine. This means, only in a word, prejudices.
Hi Sergio,my first impression before even having read any of the other comments was " National Geographic".The pose of the soldier makes a bold statement, and the headscarf adds to the interest. What does stand out though in an otherwise great picture is the shadow on the bottom right of the picture that has already been mentioned by Alfons. It looks like it should be the soldier's shadow, yet it doesn't seem to be...greetings, Petra
Great shot! I like it - a little contrived perhaps, but it doesn't detract from the overall impact of the pic. Well done! I look forward to more;-) Rgds
Hi Petra,
Thank you for taking time to comment my photo "Desert Soldier". I really enjoy your comment. The shadow on the bottom right is just the one of the soldier (exactly of one of his leg). It looks in that way because the sun was very low in the sky.
Aaah yes, now it makes sense :o) Thank you for letting us know Sergio. kind regards, Petra
very good photo
Excellent photo.

Amazing!
A kid with a gun far away from "us".. Dosen't matter, huh?
There is much beauty in war, a sad but often so true fact. I had a look at your site and noticed you call yourself a travel photographer while my first impression was hey! a Photojournalist ! 8-)
Great site by the way !
Welcome !
Great picture, such a beautiful boy, the gaze is perfect.
This is reality.

Excellent! PRO!
This would probably have attracted one of my rare proposals had it not already been proposed ... a nailed on, cast-iron, certain Pro ... Regards, Paul.
P.S. Although the colours are wonderful I bet this is just as stunning in mono as well - with the right treatment.
PRO!
Recently we were discussing the News & Journalism being not highlighted enough on Fc. Well here it is and as said spot on !
A FAT PRO !!

a pro ... what else ?
although - in my opinion - this is not one of his best pictures ... (from a photographic standpoint,NOT from the standpoint of journalism and documentation - and that is why I vote pro)
there is more to come ... and I'm sure his pictures will be a permanent guest in the voting department ... and in the gallery itself .
I'll bet my christmas gift on that :-)
just great - especially the complementary contrast between sky and scarf !
very excellent
Of course PRO!!
First I watched the picture and said myself, maybe its nice but I don´t like the motive and I wouldn´t take such a foto (while I´m thinking that he was sort of posing?), BUT speaking only for the fotography it´s absolutely PRO

Many thanks to all you for your appreciation on this image. I took this shot in the Temet area, a dangerous place. I asked to the soldier to pose for me. I have many other shots of the same subject in different ways.

Sergio,
Thanks for great shot. My first thought was another fake soldier, but after I enlarged the picture my eyes went straight to the right hand finger. and only soldier holds it like that.
Thanks again,
