Urkundliche Nachrichten über die Erbauung eines ersten Gotteshauses in Schönberg gibt es nicht. Doch dürfen wir mit gutem Recht annehmen, dass der Ort schon zur Markterhebung, Ende des 13. Jahrhunderts eine Kirche besaß.
