Until last week, the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin wasn't able to transport to me a message of the horror, the incredible pain and the terror which this genocide comprises. In sharp contrast to Yad Vashem, the Berlin Memorial seems to be rather a playground for kids (a labyrinth) and a place to take a rest from tourists' city tours than a place to honour the millions of victims, a place that makes you think about what men were able to do to equal men.

Maybe it's only me, but to me, the view of the lonely tree inmidst all those concrete blocks made the Memorial a real memorial for the first time. I can't explain why, but the Memorial's impact seemed to be totally new to me.

Nikon F801 with Tokina 20-35mm 1:3.5-4.5 + orange filter at 20mm on Foma Fomapan 100. Processed with Promicrol, negative scan with CanoScan 8400F.

Well, Matthew, like you I was puzzled too about the polyglossal, elaborated and well chosen eloquence of our good Toby.
I guess the little poser just wanted to show off that his remarkably intellectual capabilities include the English idiom, besides his widely known mastership of the Japanese and French language.

Hey, you two nerds - I uploaded the picture via my one possible weekly upload in the English Fotocommunity.
By the way, of COURSE I wanted to show my globetrotter ability, being able to communicate in nearly EVERY global language. Where the heck is the Japanese Fotocommunity?

Da die deutschen User meine letzten Bilder nicht so spannend fanden, dachte ich mir: Probierstes mal beim Tommy!!

Freut mich jedenfalls, wenn's euch gefällt. So ein Orangefilter is schon was Feines. :-)

Das liegt daran, daß die World-Rubrik generell unter der .de-Domain liegt, aber für die anderen, internationalen Members auch zugänglich ist - quasi eine "internationale" Rubrik. Das hab ich erst nach dem Upload gemerkt, Huey...

Ach ja, ich glaube, daß du mein Bild nicht sehen würdest, wenn du den "global"-Button nicht aktiviert hättest. Irgendwie alles etwas irritating... :-)

Mir ist mein Babelfisch ins Klo gefallen, und ich kann mich jetzt nur zum Bild äußern: Oh ... ein Baum inmitten dieses Mahnmales? Eine Ansicht dieses Ortes wie ich sie noch nie sah. Jefällt mir, auch wenn die Kanten sehr stürzen ...

Ich hatte eigentlich nur geschrieben, daß die Bauweise des Holocaust-Mahnmals mich bisher in keinster Weise an die Greultaten, die der jüdischen Bevölkerung von den Nazis angetan wurden, erinnert oder mich nachdenklich gemacht hat. Das Mahnmal erinnert mich mehr an einen Spielplatz für Kinder oder eine Ruhestätte für erschöpfte Touris. Der einzelne Baum inmitten der Steinstelen hat allerdings irgendwie etwas in mir bewegt, was ich nicht erklären kann.

@Matthias: Der Sinn des Global-Buttons erschließt sich mir immer noch nicht recht... Ich hab ihn einmal angeklickt und seitdem nicht mehr ausgemacht - wozu auch! Bei dir geht er gar nicht an, was natürlich dramatisch ist...!! :-P

Meine Gefühle beim Anblick des Baumes, da war ich ausnahmsweise mal ernst.

Der "global"-Button bewirkt nur, dass man Bilder, die von Buddies in die dot-com (oder .it, .es, .fr, ...) hochgeladen werden auch unter den Buddy-Bildern sieht ... Bei Free Guests funzt das nicht ....
