Un luogo abitato da sempre, dove è facile ripercorrere la storia dell'Uomo dal paleolitico fino ad oggi, dai villaggi neolitici al vasto tessuto urbano della Civita e dei Sassi.
La Gravina, la Murgia e le oltre 120 chiese rupestri con affreschi bizantini fanno di questo posto un habitat unico ed irripetibile, dove l'Uomo ha saputo utilizzare le scarse risorse del territorio senza distruggerlo, ma integrandosi con esso.
Alcuni grandi Maestri del cinema hanno ambientato i loro films in questo suggestivo ambiente, che per le sue peculiarità è stato il primo sito al mondo dichiarato dall'UNESCO "paesaggio culturale".
The fascination of a very ancient town.
A place inhabited from time immemorial, where it's easy to recall the history of Man going to the paleolithic age, in the neolithic villages and the vast urban areas of the "Civita" and "Sassi".
The Gravina, the Murgia and more than 120 rupestrian churches with Byzantine frescos make this place a unique environment, where man knew how to use the meagre resources of the land without destroying it, but by becoming integrated with it.
Great masters of cinema have set films in this penetrating and evocative atmosphere, which for its uniqueness became the first site in the world declared a "cultural landscape" by UNESCO.
Une ville fascinante au passé très lointain.
Une ville habitée depuis toujours et où il est facile d'y retracer l'histoire de l'homme du paléolithique jusqu'à nos jours, des villages néolithiques au vaste tissu urbain de la Civita aux Sassi.
La Gravina, la Murge et plus de 120 églises rupestres aux fresques byzantines font de ce lieu un habitat unique où l'homme a su mettre à profit les faibles ressources du territoire sans le détruire et en s'y intégrant harmonieusement.
Quelques grands maîtres du cinéma ont choisi ces décors pour le tournage de leurs films, décors dont les spécificités en ont fait le seul site "paysage culturel" du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO.
