...Castle Hill

On my way to the Great Barrier Reef, I stopped at Townsville - the city in the dry tropics region of Queensland on the north-eastern coast of Australia.

During World War II, the city was host to over 50,000 American and Australian troops and air crew, and it became a major staging point for battles in the South West Pacific.

The central city is dominated by the mass of red granite called Castle Hill, 292 metres high. There is a lookout at the summit giving panoramic views of the city and its suburbs.

a dry, barren and obviously quite windy place, but one with a breathtakingly beautiful view so it was well worth the hiking effort ; )! the semicircular bend of the bay looks just fantastic from up here! what a beautiful travel picture, viola!! hugs, sabine. p.s.: my heart goes out to the scraggly little eucalyptus braving the elements ; )

On a clear day, you can see for ever.
Hopefully you were not wearing
your shoes with the high heels?
Cheers - A.
