a daughter, a godchild, or a total stranger – WHAT DO YOU THINK? ; )
in fact, it's a detail of a much larger vertical painting showing the artist in a chair with his foster daughter lina sitting on his lap and another painter friend standing behind her. the painting hangs in the „hamburger gang“ of the kunsthalle, where the works of local artists are displayed. it’s not a famous painting but it’s one of my favorites. i find the depiction of the little girl very modern and authentic – toddler-like –, much different from the stiff-faced little adults that appear in many child portraits of the time. the year, by the way, is 1804!

LG Ruth
I don't know, to me it almost looks like a little girl in a paining. Which ever way, I think it a is a stunning picture with a very beautiful little girl

It looks like a crop out of a painting to me, but this effect can also be achieved by editing as we all know.
Whoever it is, it's a pretty nice girl and a good portrait !
..this regard profound which directly concerns the future...this smile of the Mona Lisa in the making...these protective hands around...nevertheless send my in an uncertain past...in a present not deductible...in a future "deja vu"...is this a trap where we catch the beauty...this perpetual light of the world!
Best wishes,Iacob
thanks, everyone for guessing and giving your opinion! yes, it's a detail of a much larger painting! the year is 1804!! have added a link to the original painting now, and a short text which describes why i like it so much.
This seems magical!
The girl sitting there, just keeps shining in that darkness.
The edition is also great. Thank you dear Sabine for sharing this beautiful shot of a masterpiece. I like it too.
And thanks for the link of complete version of the painting!
Best wishes from Persia,
Sepideh
A very lifelike looking face with big eyes full of expression of wonder - I can appreciate why you love looking at her painting, Sabine ... this detail is well captured and cropped and very effective in black and white.
Best wishes for the coming News Year, dear friend !!!
hugs, Adele
Yes, it is a very relaxed pose and style of dress for that era and that makes the child seem informal and more up to date. I like the expression, innocent with a hint of personality with the wide eyes.
Hugs
Sally

I like this détail from the peinted work from this artist..and you are whright...the child really has a face of a child..not an adult face..like it was usually dépicted in 16 17 th century.

Too bad about the gallery vote Sabine. This is a marvelous reinterpretation of an existing work of art.
There are still people who feel that a photo like this is really a copy of another artist's work. Many of the great photographers, including Paul Strand, Brett Weston, Diane Arbus to name just three, have chosen to reinterpret the art of others with their photos and put their name on the photo thus stating that it is their art.
Captivating. Maybe because of the direct eye contact... maybe because of the expression on her face....maybe because of the aura of mystery... Wish, I could find out more about this little girl from another time and another place...
Hi Sabine,
How are you? Hope that you are fine.. I can't remember my passwords, so I haven't been FOTO for a while...
This is a Superbly captured iamge, Sabine.
Gallery paintings are not easy to take, mainly the reflection. I have never really put any painting photo on, because of the lack of clarity and the reflection. But you did excellently on this image. Beautiful painting, nice crop, good work. I do like it.
Take care, Sabine. My best wishes to you.
lovely photograph and the story behind,
I am not at voting anymore for years,
but you have my pro too, as you have
from Claudio, Monic, Veronique and
many more from old times as I see!

Zeit weit voraus waren, was deren Malweise betrifft.

VG
