Koalas are often incorrectly referred to as "koala bears". Koalas are not related to bears, instead they belong to a special group of mammals called marsupials.
Marsupials have pouches and give birth to extremely underdeveloped young called joey.
Koalas are fussy eaters and will only consume 60 of the 800 eycalyptus species in Australia.
awww, how sweet!! the ultimate version of the teddy bear!! ; )) their "neotenized appearance"* makes our hearts helplessly overflow with tenderness! i'm particularly touched by the shy and gentle pose and look of the cub! hugs, sabine.
* i had to look that term up ; )) because only the german word "kindchenschema" popped up in my mind. found its english equivalent on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuteness
Oh wow!!! I know how much you wanted to see them and i'm very sure that it was worth every minute. What a lovely shot Viola. I love it and I love the interaction between them

So beautiful, these both! To look to this "mother and child" is really touching! Yoh have got such a wonderful shot! The light, crop and sharpness are impressing!

Yes indeed, a real nice little family-shot.
As I know (from TV) Koalas are very slow
moving creatures. - So you could take all
the time you needed for this picture?
Cheers - A.
