Bloom on a pad of the Coastal Prickly Pear Cactus - the cactus structure with the curled thorns is not a part of the Prickly Pear; the pad that the blossom is attached to is barely visible at the bottom of the frame. Some people make jam out of the fruit, the prickly pears, and some cut the pads into strips and fry them.
