Krönungsstätte, Königssitz, Hochburg des Klerus: Auf dem Rock of Cashel haben sich wichtige Episoden irischer Geschichte abgespielt.
Der weithin sichtbare Kalkfelsen, der einsam aus der fruchtbaren Ebene von Tipperary ragt, bietet mit den darauf sich erhebenden Resten mittelalterlicher Kirchengebäude einen imposanten Anblick.
Bis ins 12. Jh. war das Cashel of the Kings der Sitz der Könige von Munster.
