Die Kirche wurde im Jahre 1455 errichtet, zu dieser Zeit gehörte das Mönchgut zum Kloster Eldena. Der Dachreiter und der Treppenturm sowie das Gewölbe des Kirchenschiffs stammen aus späterer Zeit. Die Kirche erhielt das Patrozinium der Heiligen Katharina von Alexandrien.
