L'unica grotta al mondo scavata all'interno dei basalti colonnari!
Queste rocce vulcaniche devono la loro forma ad un lento raffreddamento delle lave in particolari condizioni climatiche.
Se ne trovano di simili nel nord dell'Irlanda ed in Islanda.
Staffa è poco più di uno scoglio situato ad ovest dell'isola di Mull, in Scozia, e spesso è impossibile da raggiungere a causa del mare agitato.
