what a breathtakingly beautiful view of your hometown! strange light in this late november haze makes it really special looking! and the "queen elizabeth park vantage point" brings out the best in the vancouver skyline striving upwards, it seems, to join the magnificent clouds and snowy peaks of the mountains! you showed us so many autumnal deciduous trees and shrubs those last couple of weeks, that i almost forgot, how vancouver is surrounded by forests of majestic looking conifers, like the pines (?) in the foreground of this shot! hugs, sabine.ARTURO MEDINA, 12.12.2011 at 10:45h

Dieser Kontrast zwischen den Hochhäusern der City und den Bergen im Hintergrund ist fantastisch. Es sind offenbar nur wenige Kilometer, heraus aus der City und hin zu Füßen der Bergkette, die bereits mit Schnee bedeckt ist.VG Ernst

Hi Adele,i wrote in the voting that i think that this picture is not very good. You then asked me why.
No problem.
First of all:
image formation is good. You have a clear foreground (trees, smaller houses), main subject (city with tower buildings) and background (mountains and sky with clouds). This alls fits pretty well together. Good work.
if you do landscape photography you have many times the same problem. lack of contrast at greater distance.
And this is what i think is the problem.
The foreground is clear and dominating the picture to much.
The lack of contrast in the background ist Ok. That is something we estimate and this gives the picture the third dimension. But i think the difference between the contrast in the foreground and the contrast of the main subject is to high.
What do do? Photoshop? Possible, but we are photographers :-)
Thinks i had tried to do:
=> use a polarisation filter to get more contrast.
=>took a picture at another daytime. Maybe when the sun is much lower and the then existing shadows between the tower building gives you more contrast in this part of the picture. Or at a time where the air is not so "foggy". (very early in the morning)
=>wait for another weather situation that gives you more contrast in the landscape. (e.g winter season is much more "clear" than summer, other light)
This is "MY" opinion and point of view. Maybe you can take it as something to think about. But not as "the truth". You can follow my suggestion or refuse them. This is your picture. =>Your decision.
