Valborg (Walburgis in english)

Valborg (Walburgis in swedish) is an old swedish pagan tradition going back to the midages. Aim is to welcome back the light after several months in the cold and dark period of the year. The tradition by making a fire is a way of burning the old scraps and welcoming the newborn richness of nature to come during the spring and the summer.

This tradition was also celebrated by swedes immigrating to America, in fact the Catholic church in Philadelphia wrote to the pope having him stopping this tradition - without little luck.
