... Nan-schan Gebirge zu Guangdong begrenzt. Außer im Nordosten ist Hunan von niedrigen Bergzügen durchzogen und zerfällt dergestalt in mehrere singuläre Becken. Etwa im Zentrum der Provinz liegt der Hengshan, der südliche der früheren fünf heiligen Berge Chinas. Der Name Hunan bedeutet südlich des (Donting) Sees (湖 Hu = See; 南 Nan = Süden)
