Love the tight crop, it works well in spite of what certain people think. The water worn old jetty posts and the sunken barge are excellent. You have retained lots of good detail too. The very best of luck with it H
:)))))))))

I love this shot Harold, i think that it works great in b/w.

Nice one H :)))))))))))))) Pro
I see that someone has said it is not sharp. Do they not realise that these jetty posts, the sunken barge and the stones have been battered and worn by the tides twice a day for years, therefore any sharp edges will naturally have been worn off.
To my way of thinking, there are times when too much emphasis is placed on sharpness. There is very little in nature which is that sharp.......In my opinion :))
Anyone who wishes to argue......I am here :))

Robert Riley, 29.07.2007 at 19:08h

Even water battered wood, gravel, sea and sky are all sharp in their own way. When a dandelion is ready to shed its seeds from a distance it is a fluffy ball of softness, but close up the seeds are as sharp as a needle.

Celal has his opinion and to challenge that and suggest that someone doesn't realise something is wrong here IMHO!

It is a very good shot, no question, but I too don't think it is Gallery.

Celal Tayar, 29.07.2007 at 19:08h

thx robert...

and sorry guys up there...
this is just my point of view.
and if someone of u will see it in another way as i do
i respect that , too.

may i see and vote those gallery proposes in a harder( somtimes in a harsh) way. and may i see those things i a diffrent way as some of u.

it is no prb. to get an image with a less qaulity into the gallery.
but i am missing some impact or some wow, too.
so i vote this image in the technical point of view .
and this is how i feel and see.

POINT and OUT

Well done image, but the sky seems not as well turned out as the shore - I'd like more contrast in the clouds.

Ruud van der Lubben, 29.07.2007 at 19:08h

Agree with Celal, sharpness is not optimal.
B+W conversion is not bad bad could be better i think.

SUE THOMPSON, 29.07.2007 at 19:08h

@ Celal...... Thank you for affording me the courtesy of a reply.to my remarks re sharpness.
As your reasons for voting contra were not just because of this, but also because you thought it lacked enough impact to gain a place in the gallery, fine, I can understand that. Perhaps if you had said as much at the time it would have helped the rest of us to understand your reasons better. As you say you have a right to your opinion, as do I :))
My point was, that other than the pin point of a needle [as Robert himself pointed out] nothing is so sharp in nature. There are times when, imo, pictures are over sharpened, to the point that they have a white and/or a black halo round them......nothing in nature or otherwise has such halos.

Before the advent of digital we had to rely on the quality of lenses on camera and the enlarger, plus the quality of the film, how it was developed etc.
Today we have Photoshop...a wonderful 'tool' for sorting out our digital pictures. Taking pics in raw is another advantage, but all of these things need to be used well, and not overdone. I am still very much a learner, wanting to learn more.

We have begged to differ over whether this should be in gallery or not, but we are both members of fc,,,,a great showcase for all our photographs, let us enjoy it, learn from others, be constructive in our comments and not destructive, but most of all let us all have the greatest fun.
Sincerely Sue
