I was on a business trip last week to a European capital.
Where was I? Here is the first photo.

No luck so far although they are all lovely cities:
Rome
Lisbon
London
UK in general
Madrid
Venice
Tallinn
Riga
Vilnius
Helsinki

Next photographic clue - sorry, not very helpful but for once I'm enjoying the power of withholding information;-))

Plus the first fc search clue - maybe a guy called Markus (Mark in German) can help you locate the fountain from a different standpoint.

Not the user "Markus" and not St. Mark's Square in San Marino.

Here's a new clue: a guy called Robert who comes from this city has a photo of the top of this fountain which may even be featuring the same sparrow;-)

But there are very many Roberts in the fc so here's another photo clue:
