Golden Eye

Walking passed the area where the elephants are kept at the Cleveland Zoo I noticed the grass reeds glowing in the light. I knew I had to use them in the composition of an image. Luckily the elephant was in a position that I could set this shot up. I decided to make the grass the detailed portion of the image and blur the elephants eye in the background rather than making it the main attraction.

Elephants are special......and I use to love drawing them with that wonderful leathery skin........
I really like this composition, the grasses look great catching the light against that great Elephant.

great idea and quick thinking to focus on the sunkissed grass rather than the eye – it makes the shot for me! it's like a visual of the wistful thoughts of an ancient savanna-born elephant longing to go home and feel the warm grass brush against his aging legs. scatterlings of africa… a very moving portrait indeed! greetings, sabine.
