On hike through the snowy swamp (3)

Winter is here with bitter cold temperatures far below zero, a biting northeastern wind, not much snow (but better than nothing) and sunny conditions.
Perfect weather for me to make a hike.

This landscape shot shows the snow covered swampy peat moors of ‘Hohes Venn’.
‘Hohes Venn’ is the greatest (4500 ha) and oldest National Park of Belgium and the most unique nature biotope in the land.
The whole area is vast and desolate. It consists mainly of swamps which can only be traversed by using the wooden paths that were made by the local foresters.

The hike goes on, very far into the frozen swamp........

Location : Brackvenn (-15°)

Der verschneite Weg zieht den Blick in die gefrorene Winterlandschaft - sehr schön!

I like the use of the snow covered boardwalk taking the eye into this fine scene.
    best wishes from Lawson.

Your latest hike series is definitely another step in improving the idea I had so far about nature in Belgium.

The wide angle perspective is strongly suggestive of open spaces which we do not naturally imagine in or associate with your country.

As to the relative cold, I only regret that it puts a strain on camera electronics at times. The old analog workhorses still perform without missing a beat. I keep enjoying daily hikes and/or bike rides, accepting the windchill factor. It's only a matter of dressing right after all IMHO.

    Enjoy the week-end outdoors!
