The Living Forest (114) : Red Soldier Beetle
The Soldier Beetle is a pretty nice elongated beetle which has, unlike other beetles, a soft body.
This species hunts mostly for small insects on top of flowers and plants.
In some areas it is called the ‘bloodsucker’, but that’s a misjudgement as it does actually not suck blood.
Dutch name : Kleine Rode Weekschildkever (ook Rood Soldaatje genoemd)
German name : Rotgelbe Weichkäfer
Latin name : Rhagonycha fulva

In Germany the soldier beetle, the translation is Soldatenkäfer,has a black back. The colours of this beetle are red and black
like a soldier's uniform. In all cases it is a well done shot of the leatherwing.
