Flamingoes at the Walvis Bay Lagune

The Walvis Bay lagune was declared a Ramsar Site in 1995 and is the most important wetland in southern Africa. Up to 2000000 birds spend the european winters here with birds coming from as afar as Siberia. Also to be seen here are the flamingoes which usually leave for the Etosha Pans during the rainy season to breed.and returning when their young can fly.For the last two years (because of the prevailing drought) they have not bred and are still here at the coast. Yesterday we had "Ostwind-stimmung" no fog or wind and beautiful clear blue water.
I have never seen them so pink before (due to the food they eat). It really was too beautiful to see.

THIS SHOT IS "IN VOTING" FOR THE GALLERY: MANY THANKS TO INEZ CORREIA MARQUES FOR THE PROPOSAL.
