The Living Forest (250) : Red Deers

While sitting on a rock and enjoying a picnic, I saw these 2 deers suddenly wandering through the high grasses and bracken in the forest before me.

It’s summertime and the 2 stags (males) still accept each others proximity peacefully.
Next month, it will be early autumn and the mating ritual of the deer, called the rut, will begin again.
Peace will be over as the stags compete for the attentions of the hinds (females) with their roar call but also with posturing and antler fights to establish dominance.
