In the year 330 BC....

Iran(Persia)
Ruins of ancient Persepolis in the desert,
Persepolis was one of the capitals and strongholds of the immense ancient Persian empire. The city was known as the jewel of the East surpassing in wealth any other city, full of palaces, gold, litterary works and items of art.
In the year 330 BC Alexander the Great, advancing in the depths of Asia, conquered the city and despite his strict orders to respect it's treasures his soldiers looted the city and durind a great feast and booze that followed burned it facing the fury of Alexander who next day sacrificed enormous quantities to Gods in order to purify his army from the offence. The ruins of the glorious city rest in the middle of a desert in the south o Persia, few miles away from city Shiraz.

In the photo the imposing staircaise leading to the Apadana, the Royal court of the palace saved in perfect condition.
Those same steps mounted Alexander, in 330 BC, entering the palace.

Always interesting to see the ancient buildings and to think about how they were built withthe simple tools of the day
not to mention the hours a labour involved
    Good view

The historical notes that you have included with this superb picture bring it to life for me. I have read books a out Alexander the Great and his warlike exploits, but to see a place where he actually trod... that is very special.

    :))
