Pyrite Ammonite by Neil Auty

Pyrite Ammonite

Location Robin Hoods Bay, North Yorkshire. Pyrite Ammonite in-situ on erosion shelf. Now residing in my collection at home, it was making a bid for freedom and the open sea after all.

Oh there are so many stories that could spring from this image. The unearthing of the Golden Horn of the Mythical Ram. Lots of years are present here, comp is pretty good although I personally prefer assymetrical placement. Colors are rich and I feel the border overpowers them and the rest of the image with it's dramatic color and generous width..it pulls the eye away from the true subject and nearly becomes the subject itsef. I would suggest a thin gold line amist a rich black border–to encase and hold the image in check, the gold to echo the importance of the patina of the ammonite.
