Here in Bogside (part of of Derry where in 1972 Bloody Sunday took place) I found these murals illustrating the struggle for freedom and equality before the law. Very impressive....

all the familiar everyday things in the picture are automatically seen in relation to that black slogan on the white wall: the one-way-road sign – denying access to that "free world" –, the antennas on the roofs of the houses that look strangely threatening…– – the words talk about freedom, but the context works against them, turning the slogan into an ironic statement. very scary and very impressive indeed! great shot! greetings, sabine.Comy 07/10/2009 21:27
