DCA Time Warp No.2

From out of the early 1950s, this meticulously restored Eastern Airlines "Silver Falcon" Martin 4-0-4
basks in the sunlight and the admiring glances of visitors on the tarmac, as she calls at the open house
in 1997 for the newly opened terminal at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).

She knows she's been here before, back when cars had names like Studebaker, Hudson, and De Soto,
but she can't quite recognize the place (or the clothing fashions of some of the visitors).

I like the cut, just right, not important to see the whole thing. Sometimes it is more efficient to show only details. "Minor" details like the big Pratt&Whitney R 2800 radial engine. 2800 cu inch ! Imagine that. 18 cylinders. Used also in the WW II fighters like the Grumman Cats(Hellcat, Bearcat etc) and others, mostly used in the Pacific theatre. Once you have heard that sound you're intoxicated with it for a lifetime.
It is always a pleasure for me to hear and see vintage aircraft on shows and fly bys. As a private pilot for more than 25 years I have a very special relationship with aircraft.
    A fine photo, Steve.

    Hallo,
