Geografisch gesehen ist die Región Metropolitana de Santiago außerdem die einzige Region Chiles, die keinen Küstenabschnitt und somit keinen Zugang zum Südpazifik hat. Auf Grund dieser Sonderstellung trägt die Región Metropolitana de Santiago, in der etwas mehr als 6 Millionen Menschen leben, auch keine der durchnummerierten Aufzählungszeichen.
