Which of these two web designs should I go with?

I'm in the process of re-designing my website and while I'm totally fascinated by seeing my photos in BIG format, I found it also have the disadvantage that the images get cropped heavily, depending on the screen format you see it on. It's not catastrophic, and I can easily live with it, but the argument is that the image is now viewed the way it was meant to.
I would really like to know which version people prefer to look at. I'm definitely gravitating towards the new site, as it's a much more dynamic experience. It's far from done, so all you see it the basic viewer functionality. (click-drag to see next/previous image)
