I'm torn between buying a D80 (which will probably be discontinued soon), or saving up for a D90. Right now I'm doing just fine with my D40, but I do feel restricted at times.

Saving for a new model on the way often means you can continue saving up all the time as there is allways a new model on the way.
On the other hand the D80 probably going off the market means it can be had for bargains.
Also some of the extra's ( like a grip which i have seen allready for prices as low as € 69.00 ) 8-)))))

The new D90 ofcourse in no way means that the D80 is no good anymore !!

Pay less for a body and invest in better glass !!

It is my understanding that the D90 uses the same CMOS sensor as the D300; therefore the performance and noise specifications should be the same. Differences between the D40 and D90 is the sensor technology, CCD versus CMOS. CMOS has a 4:3 aspect ratio instead of a 3:2 aspect ratio found with CCDs. CMOS technology provides for ISO 100 to 3200, versus CCD uses 200 to 1600. But none of that matters when having to down sample to 1000x1000 before posting images at FC. The image quality will suffer as a result.

Save a bit longer and go to Full Frame D700. Price dropping daily. And as Ruud says; invest in the lenses. Minimum f2.8.

I have been lucky enough to use my parents Nikon d-90. It's a great camera, the image quality and colors are amazing and the camera has a wide range of photo correction utilities right on the camera that are quite effective. all in all i would say go for the d-90

I had a D40x, but sadly enough it was stolen. When looking for a new camera I was leaning towards the D60, but I was told it would be better to wait a little, because Nikon was going to bring out new models soon... so I did.

Enter the Nikon D3000, D5000 and D90. At first I was going to choose between the D5000 and D3000, the D5000 was my first choice, but the rotating screen kind of turned me off, because it had only 1/3rd of the pixels the D3000 has... so I really was not sure what to do.

I then happened upon a very good deal for the D90, en I ended up buying it... I have to say, I never regretted that choice. It's a great camera, for beginners and advanced photographers alike. Plus it allows you to grow and develop and expand your skills because this camera can do so much! I would definitely go for the D90 instead of the D80.

Hello,

The D90 is better because of a new kind of chip.
The results with this camera are superb !

All the best: Martin AlbertsOzie Mitchell III wrote:
