Corrupt JPG and NEF files
I moved some files (JPG and NEF) from my laptop to my pc.
I cannot open any of them from the pc. I have now recovered them on the laptop (I had moved, not copied them) but the same problem exists on the laptop. The message I get from PhotoShop when I try to open a JPEG file is: "could not complete your request because an unknown or invalid JPEG marker type is found."
When trying to open a NEF file into Nikon Capture Editor (4.4.2) the message I get is: "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document." Or, "filename is not a supported image file"
Is anyone familiar with these issues?
Are there any programs to repair "damaged" JPEG and or NEF files??

I am affraid sofar noone is aquainted with this kind of problem, did you search the net ??
Next time never move, but copy, and delete the originals only then when you're shure the copying worked ok.

I have never actually encountered this type of problem as you have described. The closest thing I have encountered is JPG files that won't open in Canon Digital Photo Pro but will open in other photo editing programs. I have yet to find a solution other than don't try to open them in Canon DPP.
Ruud's advice is sound, "move" puts your original files files at risk. I do either "copy" or "cut and paste" and have had no problems.
As to recovery / repair software try Image Rescue from Lexar http://www.lexar.com/drivers/index.html#software (while it is mainly for recovering lost files it may provide some additonal light on the subject - SWAG on my part).
Another program I have had personal succes with in recovering accidentally delted files is Active-Undelete http://active-undelete.com/.
I understand your issue is more along the lines of repairing corrupt files but maybe the uncorrupt original files are still on the HD and either of these programs can recover them for you.
Check what you get/see when you open Windows Explorer and look at the files in the directory where they are stored. Can you see the files in thumbnail view and filmstrip view? Can you email me one of the corrupt files so I can see what I can do with it? Pick a smaller file size one (send me a PM and I will forward my email address)

You corrupted something during the "move".
If the corrupted string is just a part of the file name tag, then you might be able to rename the file to a .tif or .png extension and try again to open it with an editing program. The chance of that is low, but it won't hurt anything to try.

I did someones wedding photos on a Nikon D80 with a 4gb Sandisk Extreme SD card in RAW (NEF). After about 200 photos I decided to look through them on the camera. The first hundred or so were OK but after that they gave the message that the file was not image data.
I have tried all sorts of software and internet companies who promise to repair damaged files. None of them worked. I have tried Sandisks own software - no joy.
I looked at the photos in Notepad and noticed that the header section was missing so i tried to copy the header section on to the corrupt files - no good.
Then I noticed that there was no XMP file related to the duff images as there were for all the good images. I tried making a copy of an xmp file and relating it to a duff image - still nothing. It turns out the card was crap. The first gigabyte was OK but it was useless beyond that. Sandisk have a lifetime gurantee on their cards but unfortunately that only extends to replacing the card. They refused to pay for a re-run of the wedding. How unreasonable can you get?

I think it is due to hard drive file format issue. once this problem happens with me. i lost my all precious family photos.

Oops, why it happens? JPGs should work on any PC. If your problems exist still, try to use free photo share sites to find the solution.
