if anybody out there can give some good advice on use of attachable flash, I would really appreciate it.

I use my flash meter,..but somehow,.I still get some images where the subject skin tones are washed out,...or sometimes very dark...not very natural..

any help is appreciated

First question is what type of flash are you using?

Perhaps the camera is at fault or the settings on the camera. Distance to the subject as well as guide # is important too. Also you may have problems because you are trying to light a scene that is too contrasting(ie: dark subject matter with light background or vice a versa)try spot metering. There could be a number of reasons why you are getting the these results. Perhaps if you could up load an example of your problem?
