Which Tripod
Hello from Melbourne to all in FC
I just have a quick question re: Tripods - ie. which one can you recommend? I often hear that Manfrotto is the model to choose for many reasons but I have been equally impressed by the Velbon (Maxi 347), which I believe is perhaps just as flexible/lightweight/solid, and certainly cheaper, to any Manfrotto. Any thoughts?

Depends on the weight of your cam.
But a very very good one is the Manfrotto 055Pro B
I also have this tripod and I am really really happy
with it.

so the Manfrotto is a very very good choice.
The "pro B" Version also has a great macro funktion.
I think you cant buy a better one for this price.

Yes - I have been looking at tripods and decided upon the Manfrotto 055ProB I think it is superb .. and the macro or copy function is great ... where you remove the central extending neck and reset it horizontally ... you will also need a head though ... I love the grip style heads which allow you great movement simply by holding-in a button then when you release it it locks solid ... no need to adjust several levers or knobs using both hands .. with this you never need to look out of your camera viewfinder or let go of the camera ... it takes a good weight as well whilst holding rock solid .. friction control to fine tune the ease of movement ... total UK price will be around £200 for head and tripod but it will be going years after your digital camera has gone to the big camera holdall in the sky ... well worth it for rock solid long exposures ... cheap tripods are a false economy imho.

Manfrotto 190proB here with ball head. Super piece of kit.
I looked at cheaper alernatives but none offered the stability or back-up service parts that Manfrotto did.

I use an old Cullmann which is over 20 years, and i lately fitted it with a manfrotto like tree-way head from Walimex.de have a look there, cheap and good quality!
By the way.... what does a tripod have to do with digital photography ??? this should be in Acessories !!!

Ingo's tripod is really heavy, I think I'd go for the 190 if I had to buy again.
